As we conclude our study of John Chapter 6, Jesus continues his discourse that He is the bread of Life. He explains that anyone who would “eat thereof, and not die”, and “the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world.” (John 6:51) The sacrificial lamb must be eaten. Jesus was speaking to us on spiritual terms. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). Just as in Ezekiel 3:3 when eating of the scroll is described, in this sense we are consuming and being filled up with the Word of God and believing.
Those who did not understand the spiritual parable rejected Christ. Jesus explained “this is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.” (John 6:65)
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus gave his life for all of us, we all have the free will to accept Jesus into our heart; however, God is omniscient, and it is by His foreknowledge who would accept Christ, and God the Father is able to draw those to God the Son.
