We will explore the story and setting as laid out for us in 1st Samuel 17, including 8 ways which David was different, and how those differences contributed to his victory over Goliath.
1) David was chosen by God, just like us.
2) David’s perspective was different. – David did not see Goliath as an impossible foe, he saw the battles was the Lord’s. As Christians we have a different lens, and can endure.
3. David’s methods differed from others. He was a shepherd with shepherd’s weapons. Where others used swords, he used a sling.
4. His convictions were different. David feared God not men.
5. His motives were different…David knew the Lord was going to be in it. He was not motivated to build an Army, his actions were to glorify God
6. David’s vision differed from others: he wanted to show God as King, and show it by his actions.
7. His experience differed from others: David knew his victories over the Lion and Bear equipped them for this battle.
8. His attitude differed from others. Goliath was not too big to hit…he was too big to miss. David was trusting in God’s abilities and not his own.
