This Psalm comes after David was running from Saul and all his enemies, but has not been delivered. This is David’s song of victory, but it is also our song of victory. The word love used in the first verse translates to a deep intimacy, the love of a mother who embraces her child. In just the few short verses that open the psalm, David illustrates the nature of God’s love for us, he displays a child-like faith, and shows us his total dependence on God.
